Use wireless earbuds from a headphone jack: check the transmitter and the jack

A Bluetooth transmitter can bridge a wired audio output to wireless earbuds, but it is a separate powered device with its own connector, battery and limitations. The important check is the equipment at the source end—not a promise that every airplane, TV or gym machine will work.

Start with the audio output you actually expect to use

AirFly Pro 2 is documented as a Bluetooth audio transmitter for a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack. Twelve South describes plugging it into that output and pairing Bluetooth headphones; Bose's product page describes the same use for in-flight entertainment, gym equipment and other headphone-jack sources. Before buying for a trip, check the seat or equipment connector and the adapter contents. A source with no compatible audio jack is not made usable by an AirFly, and the standard AirFly Pro 2 package is not the Deluxe package that Twelve South says includes an international airline adapter.

Choose SE for one listener; Pro 2 adds sharing

AirFly SE and AirFly Pro 2 are not interchangeable bundle components. Twelve South describes SE as a transmit-only route for one paired headphone set; Bose says AirFly does not support telephony. Pro 2 adds a two-headphone arrangement and a receive mode, so it addresses different tasks. The reviewed Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (2024) + AirFly SE selection is Dewdrop Mint QCE earbuds plus White AirFly SE (SET-QCE-AFSE); the QCU2 + Pro 2 selection reviewed here uses different earbuds and a different transmitter. Neither bundle proves a particular airline jack will fit. Compare the QCE 2024 + AirFly SE assessment with the QCU2 + AirFly Pro 2 assessment for their exact selected components, separate battery claims and limitations.

Keep the travel transmitter distinct from earbud multipoint

The included QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) are the headphone receiver in the Bose bundle. AirFly Pro 2 can pair with two headphone sets from one wired source, according to Bose and Twelve South. That is not the same arrangement as two-device Bluetooth multipoint on the earbuds: multipoint lets earbuds stay connected to two source devices and switch the single audio stream. One capability sends one wired source to multiple listeners; the other manages the earbuds' Bluetooth source connections. Do not treat either feature as proof that a seat-back system supports calls. Bose states that AirFly does not support telephony.

Plan two charging routines, not one combined runtime

The transmitter and the earbuds use separate batteries. Bose lists up to six hours of music in Quiet ANC mode with Immersive Audio off, or up to four hours with Immersive Audio on, for the earbuds under its stated test conditions. Bose describes AirFly Pro 2 as lasting up to 25 hours; Twelve South uses a 25-plus-hour claim. Those descriptions do not add up to a single continuous earbud-playback number. Charge both parts independently, and do not use manufacturer maxima as estimates for a particular used unit or an entire travel day.

Check the exact kit and its fit limits

The Bose U.S. set code recorded here is SET-QCUE2-AFP2. The captured component selection is Deep Plum QCU2 earbuds QCUE2-HEADPHONEIN-DPPLM-WW plus White AirFly Pro 2 AFPRO2-3_5MM-TRANSMITTER-WHT. Its product page also has color controls, so verify the selected colors and component codes on another listing rather than assuming every displayed combination has the same identifiers. Bose lists the QCU2 earbuds as IPX4 and does not rate their charging case for water. The eartips and stability bands still need to suit the listener; a fit kit is not a guarantee of personal comfort or a seal. The exact set review explains the component-level box lists and the unknown combined-carton contents.

Use the set only if the adapter solves a real need

If most of your sources already stream over Bluetooth, the AirFly adds another device to carry and charge without changing the QCU2 earbuds. If a headphone jack is a regular part of your use, the bundle may be worth comparing with the earbuds alone. Read the Bose QCU2 + AirFly Pro 2 set assessment for the exact captured components, source limitations and package checks. Its image shows the Deep Plum / White combination, not every finish choice.

The finder does not have a question for “includes a headphone-jack transmitter.” This same-condition link narrows only to current sealed ANC earbuds with a wireless charging case; it does not assert that every result includes an AirFly or matches a particular seat jack. Open the finder with those same published choices.

Evidence to verify before travel

For this assessment, Bose's set page identifies its selected components and their described use; Bose's QCU2 page supplies the earbuds' current product details; and Twelve South's AirFly Pro 2 page explains the jack-based Bluetooth route and standard-kit contents. Confirm the real source connector, any adapter, the exact transmitter, charging cables and seller's return conditions before relying on the setup.
