Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Will the LinkBuds Clip fit if I need a sealed in-ear tip?
No sealed tip is used: Sony describes an open-ear clip design that sits around the ear rather than sealing the canal. A supplied Air Fitting Cushion can be attached if the clip does not feel secure, but Sony's instructions cannot tell whether this shape will fit your ear. If a tip seal or passive isolation is essential, compare a closed model and use the seller's return terms to check fit.
Explore this need in the finder →How do the published playback maxima differ by codec?
Sony's model-specific available-time page lists up to 9 hours of AAC music or 8 hours of SBC on a full earbud charge. These are manufacturer maxima rather than an independent runtime test; app features such as equalization, DSEE, Service Link and Adaptive Volume Control can shorten battery time. The charging case extends use, but the combined total is not a per-charge runtime.

Sony documents simultaneous Bluetooth connections to two devices and switching the music source without reconnecting. Multipoint does not mix two streams: when the first device is playing, starting playback on the other does not replace it until playback is stopped on the current source. The help guide does not identify every codec behavior during the two-device arrangement, so this assessment separates it from the single-host codec plans.
Explore this need in the finder →The LinkBuds Clip takes a different route from Sony's sealed WF-1000XM5 and WF-1000XM6. Its flexible, cuff-like body hooks around the ear rather than seating a tip in the canal. That distinction matters before codec lists or battery claims: the open design keeps nearby sound in the picture, but it also does not create the passive seal available from a well-fitted in-ear tip. This research-based assessment uses the US Greige WF-LC900/C listing, Sony's WF-LC900 specification page and model-specific YY2999 instructions; no one here has worn or tested the earbuds.
A clip-on fit is not a loose version of an in-ear tip
Sony's instructions describe turning the smaller earcuff body toward the canal side, gently pulling the earlobe and clamping the unit onto the thin edge of the ear. The supplied Air Fitting Cushions can be attached where needed if the unit does not feel secure. The support material calls the product open-ear, not sealed in-ear. That makes the Clip a different physical choice from the Fit's tip-sealed ANC arrangement and the XM5/XM6's sealed fit. The manufacturer cannot tell from a size chart whether the clip will feel comfortable or stay in place on a particular ear, so treat seller returns as part of the fit check.
“Sound Leakage Reduction” is one of three tap-selectable listening modes, alongside Standard and Voice Boost. Sony describes it as reducing sound that leaks to nearby people; Voice Boost raises voices in the content. Neither name should be confused with cancelling outside noise. The US product page calls this an open-ear design that lets music and the surrounding world coexist. If a quiet train cabin or passive blocking is the goal, a sealed model is the more relevant design to compare.
Modes and host connection have separate jobs
The earbud's Classic Audio routes are SBC and AAC. Sony's manual says it selects the codec sent by a connected source; your phone, computer, app and system settings still determine which route is actually negotiated. Sony lists up to nine hours of AAC music or eight hours with SBC from a full charge. Its separate US support sheet gives an eight-hour continuous playback maximum, while the Help Guide breaks that figure out by codec. The app's equalizer, DSEE, Service Link and Adaptive Volume Control can shorten the manual's maxima, and real runtime also depends on listening conditions.
The Greige US product page describes three modes and multipoint for two Bluetooth devices. Sony's Help Guide says the buds can hold two connections and switch music sources without reconnecting. They do not play two music streams at once: while one device is playing, starting the other does not automatically replace it. The documentation does not describe every codec behavior inside a two-device session, so this assessment models a one-host codec setup separately from a two-device multipoint setup. That is an evidence boundary, not a claim that a particular codec is technically impossible during multipoint.
Practical checks: battery, accessories and water
Sony promotes up to 37 hours with the case: up to nine from the buds plus up to 28 additional hours from case recharges. The figure describes a total with one recharge cycle and is conditional on settings and use. The case itself is not water resistant. Sony rates the earbud units IPX4, excluding the sound outlet, and says not to use them in water; dry the units before charging. Sweat protection does not make the case a gym-proof container.
The US Greige kit is listed with the case, Air Fitting Cushions and reference materials. Sony's list does not name a USB cable, so check the exact offer rather than assuming one is in the box. The company sells case covers and other cushion/case pieces separately, and the cover's color may be a different variant from the earbuds themselves. A decorative accessory is not another listening product and should not be mistaken for the earbuds package.
Who should compare this model?
The Clip is worth comparing if an open-ear, clip-style layout and awareness of the surroundings are priorities, and the buyer values choosing between AAC and SBC or switching between two connected devices. It is less aligned with a strict ANC requirement, a sealed tip, or a requirement for codec-specific runtime while using multipoint. Sony lists a companion app and touch options, but app availability, phone compatibility and connected-service support can change. Check the current instructions, source-device support, exact color suffix and what the seller includes. Greige is the reviewed WF-LC900/C. Black, Green and Lavender are separate finish listings; their exact US-listing images are shown below as appearance references, not as additional technical evidence.
