Sennheiser TV Clear Set II review

An earlier sealed true-wireless set with TV Clear Earbuds 2, a Qi/USB-C case and a separate low-latency TV Clear Transmitter 2. The transmitter needs a compatible wired TV output and power; the buds also support Bluetooth SBC and two active connections.

A useful fit for

A specific earlier option for a listener who wants sealed true-wireless earbuds and a dedicated TV audio transmitter, plus direct SBC Bluetooth for a phone or tablet. The pre-paired TVC2-TX accepts the documented optical or analog TV output and can help decouple earbud volume from the TV speaker.

The main tradeoff

This is a large, purpose-built earlier set rather than a compact general ANC pair: its earbuds have no active ANC, the TV transmitter needs a cable and separate power, optical DTS and Dolby 7.1 are not supported, and the product is marked end of life. No IP rating is documented; TV and Bluetooth runtimes are different maxima, not battery predictions for a used set.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Will it keep two Bluetooth devices connected at once?

The earbuds manual lists two active connections and six remembered pairings, and Sennheiser's launch note calls out multipoint. Treat that as a source-switching capability, not two simultaneous audio streams; confirm that the intended two hosts support the required Bluetooth route.

Does the set work with any television, including one with DTS-only optical output?

Not on the evidence checked. TVC2-TX needs a wired optical or 3.5 mm audio output and USB-C power; its optical manual lists PCM/stereo and Dolby 5.1 but not DTS or Dolby 7.1. Check the TV's output mode, not just whether it has an optical socket.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does its Qi case or 15-hour TV figure mean it is suitable for wet use or long ANC listening?

No. The case supports USB-C and Qi, but no IP rating is documented; keep the earbuds and case dry. The product has passive damping, not ANC, so neither the 15-hour TV-transmitter figure nor the 12-hour A2DP figure is ANC-on runtime.

The Sennheiser TV Clear Set II is an earlier complete U.S. true-wireless package, article 119-3016-P810: sealed earbuds with a dedicated TV transmitter and direct Bluetooth for a phone or tablet. Sennheiser marks it end of life. This source-based assessment is not a listening, fit, TV, battery or call test.

A TV system packaged around two distinct connections

The complete set includes left and right TV Clear Earbuds 2 (TVC2-EB), a charging case (TVC2-C), three adapter sizes, USB-C charging, a TV Clear Transmitter 2 (TVC2-TX), USB-C transmitter power, optical and analog audio cables, and guides. Sennheiser says the transmitter and buds are factory-paired in the set. That removes one initial pairing step; it does not remove the need to connect the transmitter to the television and give it power.

The TV path is a physical source cable followed by the transmitter’s separate proprietary low-latency radio link. TVC2-TX accepts digital optical audio or analog 3.5 mm out. Its manual lists PCM/stereo and Dolby 5.1 as supported optical streams, but not Dolby 7.1 or DTS; an incompatible optical format produces an error indication. Before considering an old set, check the TV’s actual output format, whether its optical port can be enabled, and whether it has a USB port that supplies the specified power. The TV can require a separate suitable USB power adapter if not.

Some TVs turn speakers off when an analog headphone output is used; check the sound menu or try compatible optical if others need the room speakers. For sync problems, check the TV’s audio-delay setting. That is not a compatibility test of a particular TV.

Set II is different hardware from TV Clear Set

Do not treat “TV Clear Set” and “TV Clear Set II” as finish variants. The original U.S. Set has article 119-3011-0610 and TVCE1-series components; this Set II is article 119-3016-P810 and uses TVC2-EB, TVC2-C and TVC2-TX. The sequel’s transmitter manual specifies USB-C power, factory pairing when sold as a set and Dolby 5.1 compatibility. The original system is separately assessed here. The different model codes and manuals are a reason to check component compatibility instead of assuming a TV Connector or earbud from the first Set can be mixed with Set II parts.

Sennheiser lists increased bandwidth and Dolby 5.1 as transmitter changes, not proof of improved sound. Its spares catalogue separately lists TV Clear Earbuds 2 (119-3015-P810) and TV Clear Transmitter 2 (120-3001-0610); neither part is the complete Set II. Match article 119-3016-P810 when the transmitter, earbuds, case and cables matter together.

Direct Bluetooth is not the transmitter’s radio format

For a mobile or other compatible Bluetooth host, the earbuds list Bluetooth 4.2, A2DP/HFP/AVRCP profiles and SBC. The transmitter is not a standard Bluetooth transmitter for generic headphones: it uses Sennheiser’s proprietary low-latency link. Keep those routes separate when checking compatibility or runtime. The earbuds manual lists two active connections and up to six remembered devices, while Sennheiser’s launch note describes multipoint. That supports a two-device connection need, but not two audio streams playing at once. The manual says phone calls take priority over streaming, including while listening to the TV transmitter; calls can interrupt the TV program rather than mix it with call audio.

Sealed fit, awareness and speech processing

The manual identifies true-wireless stereo earbuds with ear-canal coupling. Three silicone adapter sizes are listed, with size 2 attached on delivery; the retention feature rotates into the ear, and the left and right sides may need different sizes. That is a sealed-in-ear fit, not an open-ear design. The published fit directions are useful for checking the placement, but they cannot predict an individual seal, comfort or stability.

Sennheiser lists five speech-clarity levels, Ambient Awareness and passive noise cancellation. Ambient Awareness can pass environmental sound while streaming; it is not ANC and does not guarantee that a listener will notice a doorbell or conversation. The speech setting adjusts high-frequency emphasis according to the manual, not a medical or hearing-loss treatment. This model therefore fits a no-ANC requirement and fails a requirement for active noise cancellation.

Charging claims need their own mode and age caveats

The case supports USB-C cable charging and Qi wireless charging. The manual gives approximately two hours for a full USB-C charge, approximately three hours by Qi, and says the case provides up to 1.5 additional earbud charges. Sennheiser’s maximum listening figures are route-specific: up to 15 hours with TV Clear Transmitter 2 or up to 12 hours over A2DP. Those are manufacturer maxima, not measurements from this review, and the manuals do not assign them to ANC-on use—the earbuds have no ANC. A used set’s battery health and remaining runtime are unknown, so an old maximum is not a promise about a particular seller’s unit.

What the documentation does not settle

The model sources checked here do not provide an IP rating for the earbuds or case. Qi charging does not imply moisture resistance; keep the electronics and charging contacts dry and follow the manual’s cleaning limits. The app offers settings and firmware updates, but current app-store availability and compatibility with every phone were not independently verified. The package list describes what Sennheiser supplied originally, not what a used listing includes. No price, present resale stock, warranty, battery condition or seller return policy is established by this manufacturer research.

Who should keep it on the shortlist?

Keep this earlier set in view for sealed earbuds, the wired-input TV transmitter, speech settings, Qi charging and separate SBC Bluetooth. It is not a fit for required ANC, LDAC, AAC, LC3, a water rating or a generic Bluetooth transmitter. Before buying an old listing, verify both TVC2-EB earbuds, the matching TVC2-C case, TVC2-TX, adapter pairs, USB-C leads and both audio cables. Check the TV’s input/format and speaker behavior, part compatibility, battery operation, seller condition, warranty and returns. This assessment does not claim ownership or hands-on use.
