Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is the MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 a sealed ANC model, and what can the fit kit establish?
Sennheiser describes ear-canal coupling with Hybrid Adaptive ANC and supplies XS, S, M and L silicone tips plus S/M/L fins. The manual says the tip needs a snug canal seal for its intended fit, but the listed kit cannot establish your individual comfort, retention or seal.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the MTW3 switch between two Bluetooth devices at once?
Yes, with the manufacturer's Multipoint update: firmware 2.10.19 or later and Smart Control App 4.1.5 or later enable switching between two paired devices. The newsroom describes source switching, not two simultaneous audio streams; host behavior and codec support still matter.
Explore this need in the finder →What does the seven-hour runtime claim mean with ANC?
The exact manual's seven-hour maximum uses AAC at 50% volume with a smartphone within one metre and ANC off; its 28-hour figure includes case recharges. No ANC-on listening duration appears in the reviewed sources, so the model does not meet a positive numeric ANC-hour minimum in this finder.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I charge the case wirelessly, and does IPX4 cover the case?
The case supports both USB-C and Qi charging. IPX4 is specified for the earbuds only, and the manual says the case is not splash waterproof; keep it dry and dry wet earbuds before docking. The manual's original package list is not proof of what an older seller includes.
Explore this need in the finder →What should I verify for an earlier Black 509180 unit?
Match the Black article 509180 and the paired MTW3 R/L earbuds with their MTW3 C case. Sennheiser says non-warranty service is unavailable; ask the seller to demonstrate charging and playback, confirm the battery state, cable and tip/fin sizes, and get clear return and warranty terms. No individual unit was inspected.
Explore this need in the finder →The MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 sits between Sennheiser's first two True Wireless generations and the later MTW4/MTW5 families. This assessment is for the U.S. Black complete unit, article 509180 (model family MTW3), not a replacement earbud, case, or BTD adapter. Sennheiser's U.S. Legacy Products listing is the source observation for treating it as an earlier model. White article 509181 and Graphite article 700074 are separate finish records that share the same documented functions. The sources identify variants, not the condition or completeness of any resale package.
A sealed-tip shape with more than one fit part
Sennheiser describes ear-canal coupling, and the manual lists four silicone adapter sizes, XS through L. It also includes three sizes of silicone fin, S/M/L, to help stabilize the housing. Those are distinct adjustments: the tip is meant to seal the canal while the fin helps position the earbud. The manual says fit can affect the perceived sound, noise cancellation, call voice quality and hold, but that is not a promise that a particular size will work for every ear. A product specification cannot tell you whether this used set has all of its original tips and fins or whether the left and right earbuds will remain comfortable for you.
The noise-control system is Hybrid Adaptive ANC, and the manual describes Transparency Mode separately. These are useful documented capabilities for people who want an ANC-capable sealed earbud, but the published feature list is not a measurement of how much noise it will remove for a listener. The ear-canal seal is part of the system's fit context; an unsuitable tip can undermine the intended passive isolation and can change how the ANC is perceived.
Multipoint came in a later software update
The hardware uses Bluetooth 5.2 and the model documentation lists SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX Adaptive. Which codec actually connects depends on the phone, computer or other source and its settings. A code on the supported list does not mean every host offers it, nor is a higher-bitrate mode a guarantee of audible improvement in every app or environment.
One important lifecycle detail is easy to miss: the original launch documentation did not include Multipoint, but Sennheiser later added it by firmware. Its announcement says firmware 2.10.19 or later and Smart Control App 4.1.5 or later enable switching between two paired devices. The announcement describes changing sources—for example, moving from a phone to a laptop call—not two independent audio streams playing together. Both connected source devices still need to support the codecs they will use. If this capability matters, check the installed firmware and app rather than assuming a second remembered pairing means Multipoint is active.
Seven hours is not an ANC runtime
The manual's headline playback example is up to seven hours per earbud charge and up to 28 hours with case recharges. Its stated test uses AAC, a smartphone within one metre, 50% volume and ANC switched off. The case-assisted total is not one uninterrupted listening session, and neither number predicts how long an older unit's battery will last today. Crucially, the reviewed Sennheiser sources do not state an ANC-on music duration for the MTW3. It therefore cannot meet a numeric minimum for continuous ANC listening on the evidence used here; the seven-hour ANC-off result must not be repurposed to fill that gap.
This distinction matters when comparing generations. The current-referenced MOMENTUM True Wireless 5 in this library has a published six-hour ANC-on maximum, although Sennheiser does not tie that figure to a named codec or Multipoint. MTW3's seven-hour number is longer only under its ANC-off AAC example; it is not evidence of seven hours of noise-cancelled playback. A shopper who needs a documented ANC-on floor should compare that exact condition rather than the case-total headline.
Qi charging helps, but the case is a separate component
The MTW3 charging case supports both USB-C cable charging and Qi wireless charging. The manual's original package list includes a short USB-C-to-USB-A cable; it does not list a Qi pad. This is a meaningful distinction from the earlier MTW2 Black in this library, whose exact case is USB-C wired-only. A used MTW3 listing still needs a package check: the manual tells you what Sennheiser originally specified, not what a particular seller still has.
Water protection is another component boundary. Sennheiser specifies IPX4 for the earbuds, not the case, and the manual warns that the case is not splash waterproof. Treat that as splash resistance for the buds under the maker's stated limit—not waterproofing, swimming approval, or a rating that transfers to the case. Dry wet earbuds before putting them back in the case, and keep the charging case dry.
Earlier-product checks are more important than a spec sheet
The manufacturer's Black article 509180 support page says non-warranty service is unavailable. That does not establish that every independent repair is impossible, but it is relevant when evaluating an older unit with built-in rechargeable batteries. The exact state of a reseller's cells, charging contacts, case, firmware and accessories is unknown from product documentation. Ask for a real charging and playback demonstration, confirm the paired MTW3 R/L earbuds and MTW3 C case belong together, and get return and warranty terms in writing. The same checks apply even when a listing repeats the original manufacturer's maximum runtime.
On paper, this earlier generation suits a specific brief: sealed tips, ANC, Qi case charging and two-device source switching after the stated update. It is a weaker fit if you require a substantiated ANC-on runtime, case water protection, guaranteed remaining battery capacity, or an out-of-warranty service route from Sennheiser. No physical sample was tested for this review, and no price, current third-party stock, seller or customer experience was checked.
