Sennheiser MOMENTUM Sport (Black) review

The earlier U.S. Black 700304 is a tip-in-canal, semi-open sports earbud with hybrid adaptive ANC, left-ear heart-rate and body-temperature sensors, multipoint, IP55 earbuds/IP54 case protection, USB-C and Qi case charging. Its manual gives six hours per earbud charge only under an AAC, ANC-on, health-sensors-on test condition; it does not tie that duration to two-device use.

A useful fit for

A source-based candidate for someone who wants tip-in-canal sports earbuds with ANC, configurable fins, and left-ear fitness sensors. Sennheiser calls the ear-canal coupling semi-open; the fit test, supplied tip/fins and personal wearing experience still matter.

The main tradeoff

The exact U.S. product page marks this model end of life. Its six-hour ANC claim is under AAC with sensors active and is not tied to Multipoint; the 24-hour case wording is not added to six. Earbuds are IP55 and case IP54, but the manual says not to immerse or shower, to dry buds before charging, and to keep the case dry. Health readings are non-medical and depend on compatible apps/devices.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Is this a sealed in-ear or open-ear design?

The ear tips insert into the ear canal and the manual directs a snug, angled fit, so it fits the finder’s tip-in-canal category. Sennheiser also describes an acoustic relief channel and calls the design semi-open; do not read the category as a guarantee of an airtight seal, outside awareness or personal comfort.

What does the six-hour ANC claim actually cover?

The official manual lists up to six hours with ANC active under a test using AAC, 50% volume, a smartphone within one metre and the health-data sensors active. It is a published maximum, not a measured result here, and is not assigned to SBC, aptX, Multipoint, another volume or an older unit’s current battery.

Can I use its heart-rate and temperature sensors with workouts?

The left earbud contains heart-rate and body-temperature sensors; the right earbud can be used alone for listening but cannot supply those left-ear measurements. A compatible app/device is needed to view the data; the manual recommends Polar Flow/compatible Polar devices and says body-temperature display is currently supported by Polar Flow and the latest Polar sports watches from model year 2023. The readings are fitness/wellness information, not a diagnosis or fever check.

Explore this need in the finder →
Do two connected devices mean two audio streams?

No. The manual describes up to two Bluetooth Classic device connections at once, with up to two additional Bluetooth Low Energy links for sensor data; audio playback remains one source stream at a time. The six-hour AAC/ANC/sensors runtime test is not assigned to that Multipoint plan.

Can the case charge wirelessly, and can it get wet?

The manual documents USB-C and Qi charging. It rates the earbuds IP55 and the case IP54, not the same rating; it says not to immerse or shower with the earbuds, to dry them before charging, and to keep the case dry. A Qi pad is not in the listed package.

This is a source-based assessment of the earlier U.S. Sennheiser MOMENTUM Sport in Black, article 700304. I have not worn, exercised with, measured or tested it. Sennheiser marks the product end of life, so the manual's maximum battery figures describe its published specification—not the condition or performance of a particular offer.

Sport-focused, but not an open-ear shape

MOMENTUM Sport is a pair of independent earbuds that insert silicone tips into the ear canal. Sennheiser also calls the acoustic design semi-open: its relief channel is intended to allow airflow and reduce body-borne noise. That is a meaningful distinction from a cuff or clip that leaves the canal without a tip. It still is not a promise that the earbuds will feel comfortable, stay put or create the same acoustic seal for every ear.

The official U.S. manual identifies the left and right earbuds as MSPORT1 L and MSPORT1 R and describes a snug, angled insertion. The original package lists transparent S/M/L tips (M pre-mounted) and N/S/M/L ear fins (M pre-mounted), plus a case finger strap. It also warns that only the supplied transparent tips should be used for the biometric sensors to work properly. The app's fit test and the different sizes provide ways to check setup; neither replaces your own fit check or establishes secure retention during a specific workout.

ANC, transparency and exercise sensors share one product

The documented listening modes include Hybrid Adaptive ANC and Transparency Mode. The U.S. product page describes a sports-oriented, shielded microphone system intended to reduce wind noise in transparency. That gives the model more than one way to manage outside sound, but no label can promise that you will hear traffic, instructions or another person clearly enough in your setting. For workouts where environmental awareness is essential, test the chosen mode at low risk and do not let audio substitute for attention.

The more unusual feature is the heart-rate and body-temperature sensing in the left earbud. The product page gives a heart-rate range of 30–220 beats per minute and body-temperature range of 35.5–42.0°C with stated accuracy of ±0.3°C. The manual identifies the sensor as left-side only; you can use either bud alone for listening, but a right-only session cannot provide these measurements. A compatible app, watch or fitness device is needed to display the data. Sennheiser recommends Polar Flow and compatible Polar devices, and the manual says body-temperature display is currently supported through Polar Flow and the latest Polar sports watches from model year 2023. Check your exact phone/watch/app combination rather than assuming every fitness platform exposes both values.

These are fitness and wellness data, not clinical readings. The manual explicitly says not to use the product for diagnosis, treatment or fever measurement. If your goal is medical monitoring, a pair of earbuds should not be treated as a substitute for a suitable health device or professional advice.

Bluetooth connections are not the same as simultaneous streams

The manual specifies Bluetooth 5.2 and SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX Adaptive. Codec selection depends on the source device and its negotiated Bluetooth route. There is no reason to treat a supported-codec list as a guarantee that a phone, watch or laptop will use a particular codec; check that host's settings and support before relying on it.

Its connection arrangement is more involved than ordinary phone-only multipoint. Sennheiser documents two Bluetooth Classic connections at once and two additional Bluetooth Low Energy links for sensor data. Audio still plays from one source device at a time. That can accommodate a training watch or sensor-display device alongside a phone, but it does not mean two people can stream two programs into the earbuds simultaneously. The manual does not attach the ANC runtime test below to its two-Classic-device plan, so I do not combine those claims.

Read the runtime conditions before planning a session

The manual lists up to six hours with the earbud battery under a specific test: a smartphone within one metre, AAC, 50% volume, ANC activated and health-data sensors active. That is the only ANC duration used for the finder threshold here. It is not an independent measurement, and it does not establish six hours over SBC, aptX, aptX Adaptive, another volume, a two-host connection or a worn battery. The manual separately states 24 hours with the rechargeable battery of the charging case under the same test conditions. Its wording does not clearly say whether that is an overall system total or a case-only contribution, so adding 24 to six would be an unjustified precision.

There is a further limit for secondhand buyers: the manual lists alternative battery-cell capacities for the earbuds and the case but does not map those alternatives to the Black, Graphite or Olive article numbers. It cannot identify the revision or remaining charge capacity of the particular unit being sold. The U.S. product page says the model is end of life; ask for exact article, included parts, charging behavior, battery condition, warranty and return terms rather than relying on a manufacturer's maximum for a new unit.

Charging and water ratings belong to the case and buds separately

The MSPORT1 C charging case supports USB-C cable input and Qi wireless charging. The manual's original-box list includes a roughly 0.4 m USB-A-to-USB-C cable but not a Qi pad. Its package summary also lists the case, fins, tips and finger strap; a resale listing can omit any of them, so check the actual package instead of assuming the manufacturer's original contents are present.

Water claims differ by component: the earbuds are IP55 and the case IP54. Neither rating means waterproof. The manual permits use in rain as an example but says not to immerse or shower with the earbuds, to dry wet buds before charging and to keep the charging case dry. Follow that conservative care boundary, particularly after a workout; wireless charging does not change the case's stated protection.

Black, Graphite and Olive are separate U.S. articles

The exact U.S. product record identifies Black 700304, Graphite 700305 and Olive 700306. They are separately retained here with their own official appearance images; the checked product record and manual disclose no finish-specific operating difference. The images show the earbuds, not each color's complete retail package.

Who should keep it on the shortlist?

Consider the documented trade-off if you want sport-oriented earbuds with canal tips, ANC, Qi charging and biometric data in one package, and you can verify a compatible sensor app and an older unit's condition. The earlier ACCENTUM True Wireless is a different Sennheiser choice with its own sealed-fit and ANC assessment; it does not inherit MOMENTUM Sport's left-ear sensors or this exact IP55/IP54 split. If biometric capture is not a requirement, compare other current-reference models on fit, runtime evidence, case charging and your intended host rather than treating the Sport name as a general performance ranking.

Before considering any offer, match the exact article and finish, check that both earbuds and the case are present, ask for the supplied tips/fins and USB-C charging lead, and review the seller's condition, battery, return and warranty terms. Verify the fitness-app path in advance and keep the sensor's non-medical purpose clear. This assessment makes no claim about current stock, price, seller quality, sound quality or personal fit.
