Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the Black Buds3 FE package include more than one tip size?
Samsung says the package includes three sets of ear tips in S, M and L, as well as the case and quick-start guide. The cable and charger are not included, and having several sizes does not guarantee the shape seals comfortably in every ear.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I charge the case on a wireless pad?
No. Samsung's US FAQ states that wireless charging is not supported. The case charges by cable, and the USB Type-C cable is not included in the box.
Explore this need in the finder →Is IP54 protection also claimed for the case?
No. Samsung's footnote says IP54 applies to the earbuds only and that the case is not water resistant. Dry the charging contacts before charging and do not treat the rating as permission to use the case in a wet environment.
Explore this need in the finder →Research-based assessment: The black Samsung Galaxy Buds3 FE is a sealed in-ear set with active noise cancellation, supplied S/M/L tips and a wired-only charging case. Its appeal is the straightforward combination of tip-fit, ANC and app controls; its important compromises include no wireless case charging, an IP54 rating that applies to the earbuds rather than the case, and no included USB-C cable. This assessment uses Samsung's US product, comparison and exact-SKU pages, together with Samsung's operating manual for the shared SM-R420 family. It is not a wear test, hands-on trial or measurement.
The seal is a real difference from the open Buds4
Samsung describes Buds3 FE as a tip-based in-ear shape and includes three tip sets: small, medium and large. That is a different wearing style from the open Galaxy Buds4, which has no silicone tips. The included sizes give a shopper a few ways to check fit but do not show that any size will work for every ear. Tip fit matters for comfort and for a stable placement; the purchase decision should include a return period that allows an individual fit check.
Samsung lists both ANC and Ambient Mode. Those are useful mode choices, but they do not establish an independent noise-reduction result in a commute or office. The Buds3 FE uses one 11 mm dynamic driver and Samsung lists six microphones. These specifications distinguish its general hardware layout from the two-way Buds4 Pro; they do not demonstrate a listening preference or call outcome. The supplied fit and documented feature set are better grounds for comparison than a made-up performance score.
Use the runtime number carefully
Samsung's US page lists up to six hours of music with ANC on per charge, 24 hours total including the case, up to 8.5 hours with ANC off and 30 hours total. Samsung warns that settings, Bluetooth signal and use affect battery life. Those are manufacturer maximums, not observed durations for this assessment. The 53 mAh earbuds and 515 mAh case capacities add context but cannot predict an individual's daily charging schedule.
Samsung's technical specification for the SM-R420 family lists AAC, SBC and Samsung Seamless Codec. The US page lists Bluetooth 5.4 and Samsung's family comparison distinguishes its 16-bit/48 kHz audio profile from the newer Buds4 series UHQ claim. Codec support still depends on the host and selected audio path. Samsung's listed codecs for the SM-R420 family do not include LC3, so this review does not suggest LC3 compatibility.
Charging is intentionally simple, but not wireless
Samsung's US FAQ is explicit: the case charges by cable and wireless charging is not supported. It also says the USB Type-C cable is not included. The supplied package includes the earbuds, case, tip sets and Quick Start Guide; a shopper should check whether a suitable USB-C cable and charger are already available. This is the clearest functional difference from the Buds4 and Buds4 Pro cases, which support wireless charging. A wireless pad cannot solve the FE's cable-only case requirement.
Samsung rates the earbuds IP54 and states that the charging case is not water resistant. The product rating is not a pool or shower promise; protect the case and dry contacts before charging. Samsung's English operating manual advises cleaning moisture from the contacts and using a dry case. Do not infer case protection from the earbuds' rating.
Galaxy conveniences need Galaxy equipment
Samsung promotes easy pairing, EQ presets, ANC controls, Find and Auto Switch across compatible Galaxy devices. Auto Switch depends on setup and signing into the same Samsung account, so it is most relevant to someone already using Samsung phones, tablets or computers. It should not be confused with two simultaneous Bluetooth multipoint links: Samsung does not document that arrangement for this assessment, and the feature is not represented as a match for that finder requirement.
Basic Bluetooth pairing supports broader hosts, but not every Galaxy app feature carries over to iOS or PC. Samsung's account and app prerequisites are important checks for anyone shopping primarily for an iPhone. If a listener wants simple cable charging and standard Bluetooth audio, the ecosystem layer may be optional; if they expect Galaxy-specific toggles or automatic switching, they should verify the actual devices and OS versions.
Black and Gray share the documented model family
Samsung's US pages list Black and Gray finishes. The reviewed Black SKU is SM-R420NZKAXAR; Gray is SM-R420NZAAXAR. The exact-finish Samsung images below show the earbuds only, not the charging case or retail box. The finish is cosmetic; package and feature evidence is assessed for the common SM-R420 family and the exact US order codes are retained in the catalogue ledger.

Who should compare the Buds3 FE?
It is a reasonable research-based candidate for someone who wants a sealed-tip fit, ANC, included sizes and no requirement for a wireless-charging case. It is less suitable when wireless charging is essential, the case must have a documented water rating, LC3 is a hard codec requirement or the buyer needs a measured runtime guarantee. Relative to Buds4, the FE has a sealed fit and different case charging, while Buds4 is open and supports wireless charging. Relative to Buds4 Pro, it is not the same two-way-speaker, higher UHQ configuration; each model's exact host and fit requirements should be compared directly.
- Match the US Black SKU SM-R420NZKAXAR and check the seller's included-tip and case package.
- Try the supplied S/M/L tips for a clean fit in both ears within the return window.
- Plan for a USB-C cable: Samsung says none is included and the case cannot charge wirelessly.
- Keep the case dry; IP54 applies to the earbuds only.
- Check device and app support before relying on Samsung account-based switching or settings.
Bottom line: Buds3 FE's decision profile is the sealed fit, included tip sizes and cable-charged case. It is not a wireless-charging alternative, its case is not IP54 rated, and Samsung's maximum battery claim is not a guarantee. Those limits are straightforward enough to make an exact-package and fit check more valuable than a broad “best earbuds” label.
Primary evidence: Samsung US Buds3 FE product details, Samsung US comparison, the Black US SKU page, Samsung's SM-R420 technical specifications, and the SM-R420 operating manual. The Canada pages corroborate shared-model technical and care details; US package claims come from Samsung US sources.
