Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Are Galaxy Buds2 sealed in-ear earbuds?
Yes. The SM-R177 manual instructs attaching an ear tip and adjusting each earbud in the ear for fit; Samsung adds a Galaxy Wearable fit test. This describes a tip-sealed layout, not a guaranteed seal or comfort for an individual wearer.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Galaxy Buds2 have active noise cancellation?
Yes. Samsung U.S. documents ANC and Ambient Sound as separate modes. Its ANC instructions say to insert both earbuds. Ambient Sound is microphone pass-through, not an open-ear fit or proof of a safety alert being heard.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its five-hour ANC-on maximum meet a five-hour per-charge minimum?
Samsung's U.S. specification lists up to five music hours per earbud charge with ANC on. It reaches a five-hour threshold in the broad, codec-unspecified plan, but not six; case totals include recharge time and do not extend one continuous session. Actual battery life varies, and this does not predict an older battery.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Samsung publish five ANC hours for SBC or AAC specifically?
No codec-specific ANC duration is stated. Samsung lists Classic Audio SBC/AAC support and separately publishes a broad five-hour ANC-on maximum, so a named codec plus an ANC-time floor does not inherit the broad number.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Galaxy Buds2 stay connected to two Bluetooth sources simultaneously?
No. Samsung says Buds2 can switch between paired devices, including same-account Galaxy Auto Switching, but also states it cannot connect to multiple devices simultaneously. This is not Bluetooth Multipoint.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the Buds2 case support wireless charging?
Yes. Samsung lists Qi-certified wireless charging for the case. The pad is not established as part of a seller's box, and the North American manual says the wall charging head is separate.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Galaxy Buds2 qualify for an IPX4 earbuds-only water choice?
No. Samsung Canada lists IPX2 for Buds2 and cautions against exposure to moisture; the reviewed evidence does not support IPX4 or IP57, and it does not establish a water rating for the case. Do not treat IPX2 as waterproofing or a swim rating.
Explore this need in the finder →Research-based assessment: This page reviews the earlier U.S. Graphite Galaxy Buds2, model SM-R177 and exact order code SM-R177NZKAXAR. Samsung also identifies U.S. White, Olive and Lavender finishes; the evidence reviewed does not establish functional differences among those colors. This is a source-based comparison, not a listening, fit, microphone, call or battery test. Current availability, an older unit's battery health and a particular seller's package are not verified.

A sealed-tip fit, with a fit check rather than a promise
Galaxy Buds2 is a sealed in-ear design: the North American SM-R177 manual instructs attaching an ear tip, placing the buds with the tips in the ears, and adjusting them to fit. Samsung also describes an app-based earbud fit test. The reviewed U.S. sources do not establish exact supplied tip-size labels, and neither a manual nor a software fit check can tell whether the shape will feel secure, seal well or remain comfortable in your own ears. Check the actual tips and return terms before relying on the fit.
Are Galaxy Buds2 sealed in-ear earbuds? Yes: the manual shows a tip-sealed layout, but not an individual fit guarantee. Compare the same earlier-inclusive, sealed-fit requirement.
ANC and Ambient Sound are separate features
Samsung's U.S. launch and support material documents Active Noise Cancellation, plus a separate Ambient Sound mode with three levels. Samsung's ANC instructions say to insert both earbuds before using ANC. Ambient Sound passes selected outside sound through the microphones; it is not ANC, and neither mode turns this sealed design into an open-ear earbud. Feature availability is not a measurement of noise reduction in a particular room, commute or call.
Does Galaxy Buds2 have ANC? Yes. Samsung lists ANC and Ambient Sound separately. Check that ANC is essential rather than assuming Ambient Sound or a seal substitutes for cancellation. Run the same earlier, sealed-fit and ANC choices.
Five ANC hours is a broad per-charge maximum
Samsung's U.S. specification lists up to five music hours per earbud charge with ANC on and up to 20 total with the case; with ANC off, it lists up to 7.5 per charge and up to 29 total. Those totals include time for the case to recharge the buds between sessions, not one uninterrupted listening stretch. Samsung cautions that actual battery life varies with settings, playback file type and Bluetooth signal. A five-hour launch maximum cannot predict the condition of an older pair.
The ANC-on figure does not name SBC, AAC or Samsung Scalable, and no two-device plan is attached to it. Under the broad, codec-unspecified ANC arrangement, Galaxy Buds2 meets a five-hour floor but not six. Does its published ANC maximum meet five hours per charge? Yes at the stated maximum, not as an aged-battery guarantee. Check the same earlier, sealed ANC choices at five hours or raise only that floor to six.
Samsung also lists one hour of playback after a five-minute quick charge, measured with ANC off and an earbud battery below 30 percent when charging starts. Treat that as another manufacturer condition, not a measured emergency-charge result or a claim about the battery in a used listing.
Codec support and battery duration should not be merged
The launch table lists Bluetooth 5.2 and three codec labels: SBC, AAC and Samsung's proprietary Scalable codec. SBC and AAC are documented as Classic Audio choices; Scalable is a separate Samsung-host route, so check the exact phone, app and software if that proprietary option matters. Samsung's five-hour ANC number is a model-level maximum with no codec split. In the matcher, the broad ANC runtime and codec-only plans stay separate rather than implying five hours with AAC or SBC.
Does Samsung publish five ANC hours for AAC specifically? No. The same separation applies to SBC. Check the same earlier, sealed, ANC, AAC and five-hour conditions together; the matching library intentionally does not borrow the broad duration for that codec plan.
Auto Switching is not two-device Multipoint
Samsung support describes switching to previously connected Galaxy devices signed into one Samsung account. The comparison support page also says Buds2 cannot be connected to multiple devices simultaneously, though it can switch between paired devices. That is sequential switching, not two live Bluetooth source connections. Do not select this model if two simultaneous source links are a hard requirement.
Can Buds2 stay connected to two Bluetooth sources at once? No. Auto Switching is not Multipoint. Run the same earlier, sealed ANC and two-device requirement.
Qi case charging, IPX2 and package checks
Samsung lists Qi-certified wireless charging for the case, and the North American manual describes cable and wireless charging. The manual says the wall charging head is sold separately. The reviewed U.S. material does not confirm the connector subtype, so do not assume USB-C from this review. The 2021 U.S. launch list includes earbuds, case, eartips, charging cable and Quick Start Guide; that is historical family-package information, not proof that a current or resale offer contains every part. A Qi pad is not established as included.
Samsung Canada lists an IPX2 rating for Buds2 and warns against treating the buds as waterproof. The manufacturer evidence reviewed here does not support IPX4 or IP57, nor does it assign a water rating to the case. IPX2 is not a swim claim; keep the buds and case dry, especially before charging.
Does the case support wireless charging? Yes, Qi is listed; the accessory pad and any particular seller package still need checking. See the same earlier-inclusive wireless-case results. Does Buds2 qualify for an IPX4 earbuds-only choice? No. Check the same earlier-inclusive IPX4-level requirement.
Host support and finish identity
Samsung says advanced settings, including Ambient Sound volume, use Galaxy Wearable on Android; its U.S. launch note specifies Android 7.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB RAM, and lists a Galaxy Buds PC app for Windows 10 or later. Samsung's U.S. iOS help lists Buds2 as Bluetooth-only rather than compatible with the iOS Buds app. Confirm current phone, operating-system and app support before expecting the full controls. The model includes three microphones and a voice pickup unit, but no call-quality test was conducted for this assessment.
Samsung's exact U.S. product routes identify Graphite SM-R177NZKAXAR, White SM-R177NZWAXAR, Olive SM-R177NZGAXAR and Lavender SM-R177NLVAXAR. Their appearance is different; the reviewed sources do not establish a distinct functional plan by finish. The gallery images are finish-identification aids only, not package or seller-condition evidence.

Bottom line
Galaxy Buds2 is an earlier sealed-tip ANC option with a Qi case and documented SBC/AAC/Scalable routes. Its most useful numeric boundary is Samsung's five-hour ANC-on music maximum per earbud charge, which is not codec-specific, not a continuous case-assisted session and not an older battery estimate. Its simultaneous-device limit, IPX2-level water language, unknown case rating, unconfirmed U.S. connector subtype and limited iOS app support matter just as much. Verify the exact SM-R177 finish code, case, working battery, included items, current host compatibility, return policy and seller warranty before deciding.
Primary evidence: Samsung's U.S. 2021 launch and specification table; exact U.S. Graphite, White, Olive and Lavender finish pages; the North American English SM-R177 manual; Samsung U.S. useful-feature and Auto Switch guidance, ANC instructions, Ambient Sound instructions and iOS compatibility information; and Samsung Canada's model comparison for IPX2 and simultaneous-device limits.
