Samsung Galaxy Buds On, Black (pre-release reference) review

Samsung announced a U.S. Black Galaxy Buds On for early November 2026; its U.S. product page says November 6. As checked November 1, the exact retail SKU and complete box contents were not published, so this is a non-buyable pre-release reference, not a current shortlist recommendation.

A useful fit for

A pre-release reference for people comparing an open-ear clip-on shape, Galaxy-device features and a wireless-charging case; no wear test or current purchase is established.

The main tradeoff

The open design does not seal the ear, ANC and ANC-on runtime are not established in Samsung's public pre-release material, the IP54 rating excludes the case, and the exact retail SKU/package is still unknown.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does Galaxy Buds On seal the ear canal like a tip-style earbud?

No. Samsung describes Galaxy Buds On as a clip-on, fully open-ear design that rests over the ear rather than using a sealed canal tip. That is a different listening arrangement, not a guarantee of a particular person's comfort or retention; no hands-on fit assessment was performed.

Can its published battery claim meet a minimum ANC listening time?

Not on the evidence checked. Samsung's U.S. release gives up to 9.5 hours of general music playback per earbud charge on pre-production hardware and does not tie that figure to ANC. The product page's separate nine-hour continuous-use wording is also not an ANC-on claim. ANC support and any ANC runtime remain unknown, so neither number should satisfy an ANC requirement.

Explore this need in the finder →
What does the IP54 rating cover?

Samsung's footnote limits IP54 to the earbuds. The charging case is explicitly not water resistant, and Samsung warns against beach or pool use and says to dry wet earbuds before placing them in the case. IP54 is not a waterproof or swimming claim.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does Galaxy Auto Switch mean two simultaneous Bluetooth connections?

No such Multipoint arrangement is established. Samsung describes audio switching between compatible Galaxy products after setup, but does not document two concurrent Bluetooth source connections for this model. Treat the mode as one source at a time until a final manual confirms more.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the case charge on a wireless pad, and is a pad included?

Samsung says the case supports wireless charging and that wireless chargers are sold separately. The exact final carton contents and the case's wired connector are not established in the checked pre-release pages, so confirm those details after release rather than assuming a pad or cable is included.

Pre-release, research-based assessment: Samsung announced Galaxy Buds On for the U.S. in Black, and its product page gives November 6, 2026 as the arrival date. This assessment was checked November 1, before that date. Samsung's pages name the model and publish several specifications, but do not show an exact U.S. retail order code or a complete final box-contents list. No retail unit was handled, worn, measured or tested. Until the release identity and package can be checked, this is a reference page, not a current buying recommendation; it has no purchase link.

The main distinction is the clip-on open-ear fit

Samsung describes Galaxy Buds On as its first open-ear Galaxy Buds: a flexible clip-on band sits around the outer ear instead of placing a tip into the ear canal. That makes it a different proposition from a sealed earbud and also from the company's open-fit Buds4, which rests at the ear without a silicone canal seal but is not advertised as a clip-on. Samsung says the design aims to preserve awareness of nearby people and sounds. That is the product's use case, not a tested guarantee that every wearer will hear all surroundings at every volume.

The published individual-earbud weight is 6.65 g. Samsung says the band shape was developed using ear data and simulation, but neither those methods nor the fit claim establishes comfort across individual ears. People comparing clip-on designs should check how the band contacts their ear, whether glasses or other eyewear interfere, and whether the bud stays secure during their own movement. This assessment makes no retention or comfort claim from personal use.

Do not treat awareness features as noise cancellation

The public product page emphasizes open-ear listening, leakage reduction and automatic volume adjustment. Its comparison list does not identify an ANC mode for Buds On; it separately calls out ANC on the Galaxy Buds4 Pro. Samsung's product page says Auto Volume is a Labs feature that requires One UI 8.5 or later and may vary with the environment. Sound Leakage Reduction is a manufacturer claim about reducing escaping sound, not a privacy test or evidence that nearby listeners will hear nothing.

Because the public material is still pre-release and does not provide a full final technical matrix, this review leaves the ANC field unknown rather than converting omission into a confirmed no. The published music-runtime number is not an ANC figure. If cancellation is essential, the public source does not establish Buds On as a fit for that need; compare an explicitly ANC-equipped model such as the Galaxy Buds4 Pro assessment instead.

Battery claims have separate conditions

Samsung Electronics America gives an up-to-9.5-hour music-playback maximum for the earbuds and up to 38 hours including the case. Its footnote says the test paired pre-production Buds On with a recently released Galaxy phone at default settings and warns that use, settings, signal and other factors change playback time. Samsung's consumer product page separately says up to nine hours of continuous use at standard audio quality. Those statements may refer to different test setups or definitions; this review preserves them separately instead of averaging them into one expectation. Neither describes ANC-on runtime, and a case-inclusive total is not one continuous earbud session.

The U.S. release also lists up to 5.5 hours of talk time per charge and 25 hours including the case, again as Samsung's test maximum rather than an independent measurement. People with long call days should distinguish the call figure from the music figure and allow for real-use variation.

Codec names do not resolve every host question

Samsung's U.S. specification lists Bluetooth 6.2 and SSC, SSC UHQ, AAC, SBC and LC3, alongside the A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, PBP and TMAP profiles. The same announcement says Android 12 or later and more than 1.5 GB of memory are required, and warns that some features may not be available on non-Samsung devices. It does not publish a complete table linking every codec to a compatible phone, operating mode, feature set and battery figure. A listed codec is not a promise that every host will expose every Samsung-only option.

Samsung also describes Auto Switch for moving audio among compatible Galaxy devices after setup. That is useful to distinguish from a conventional Bluetooth Multipoint claim: the reviewed public material does not state that two source devices remain connected at once. Do not select it on the assumption that the phone and laptop can both hold concurrent connections. The Galaxy-specific voice memo, head-gesture and assistant features also have software, account or app requirements; verify those against the exact host after release.

Wireless charging is useful, but the case is not water rated

Samsung says the case can charge on a wireless pad and that wireless chargers and charging cables are sold separately. The sources checked here do not identify the case's wired connector, and the product page does not supply a complete retail-box list. Confirm the cable, charging method and any included accessories on the final U.S. order page rather than assuming a particular connector or bundled charger.

The U.S. release specifies IP54 for the earbuds only. Samsung explicitly says the case is not water resistant, limits the test to fresh-water splashes, discourages beach and pool use, and instructs users to dry earbuds and hands before placing the buds in the case. Keep the case and charging contacts dry; the earbuds' dust and splash rating does not transfer to their storage or charging case.

What is still needed before treating it as a shopping candidate?

The dated U.S. release announces Black for $229 and early-November availability; the product page gives November 6, 2026. Those are manufacturer announcements, not evidence of an active offer, actual stock or a completed retail package on November 1. The exact SKU/model code, final package contents and a complete support/manual matrix remain unverified here. The product illustration below comes from Samsung's U.S. press kit and shows the black earbuds, not the case or the carton.

Bottom line: Galaxy Buds On is a documented new clip-on, open-ear model with a wireless-charging case, published general playback limits and a set of Galaxy-oriented controls. Its open fit and IP54 earbuds-only rating are clear decision points; ANC, ANC runtime, simultaneous Multipoint, exact case connector and final retail details are not established by the reviewed pre-release pages. The sensible next step is to verify Samsung's final U.S. SKU and package after launch, then assess how the fit, controls and host requirements work for the intended person. Until then, this page remains a non-buyable reference.
