Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does Galaxy Buds FE have a sealed in-ear fit?
Yes. Samsung documents S/M/L eartips and M/L wingtips, and the SM-R400N manual shows fitting an eartip and wingtip before insertion. This supports the sealed-in-ear style choice but cannot establish an individual user's comfort or seal.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Galaxy Buds FE have active noise cancellation?
Yes. Samsung lists ANC and Ambient Sound as separate modes. The SM-R400N manual says noise-control modes can be activated only when both earbuds are worn; this is not a claim about a measured cancellation level.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the published ANC-on playback claim meet a six-hour minimum?
Samsung's U.S. newsroom states up to six music hours per earbud charge with ANC on, with up to 21 total including the case. The broad claim reaches six but not seven; it is a pre-production manufacturer maximum, not a codec-specific test or a promise about an older battery.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Samsung document six ANC-on music hours specifically over SBC?
No. The U.S. sheet separately lists SBC and six ANC-on hours but does not connect them in one operating arrangement. Its separate Classic Audio SBC plan therefore keeps ANC duration unknown; do not combine the generic six-hour claim with a codec requirement.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Buds FE remain connected to two source devices simultaneously?
The reviewed Samsung documentation describes switching between paired devices, including account-based Auto Switch, not two concurrent Multipoint links. The matcher records one simultaneous source; do not treat device switching as simultaneous listening.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the Galaxy Buds FE case meet the wired-only USB-C choice?
Yes. Samsung's U.S. business sheet lists wired charging only, and the official SM-R400N manual identifies a USB Type-C case port. The U.S. support page says a wall charger is sold separately. Confirm that the actual older seller package includes a working cable and case.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its IPX2 label qualify for an IPX4-earbuds-only or IP57-buds-and-case request?
No. Samsung's U.S. launch says IPX2 but does not name which component carries the mark. The reviewed evidence supports neither IPX4 on the earbuds nor IP57 on buds and case; keep both dry and do not treat the rating as a swim claim.

Samsung Galaxy Buds FE review: the six-hour ANC edge, with an older-battery caveat
The 2023 Galaxy Buds FE are sealed, wing-supported earbuds with active noise cancellation, Ambient Sound and a wired-only charging case. Samsung's U.S. launch specification gives a useful, narrow numeric edge: up to six music hours per earbud charge with ANC on, or up to 21 hours in total when the case is included. That is the manufacturer's maximum under a preproduction/default-settings test—not a result measured here, not a codec-specific duration, and certainly not a prediction for an older battery. The model number matters: these are SM-R400N, not Samsung's much later Galaxy Buds3 FE.
This is an evidence-based review of Samsung's published documentation and the exact U.S. Graphite finish. No listening, fit, call, noise-reduction, battery, water or durability test was conducted. It helps answer what the documented configuration can and cannot support; it does not tell you that a particular used pair is healthy.
Sealed fit with a stabilizing wing
The FE has an in-ear eartip and a small wing that braces the bud. Samsung's U.S. support list specifies small, medium and large eartips, plus medium and large wingtips. That gives two different fit adjustments: the tip size helps establish the canal seal, while the wing is intended to help hold the housing in position. The product's styling and the inclusion of multiple sizes make it a sealed-in-ear model, but neither proves that any one size will seal comfortably in your ear. Samsung's comfort language is a design claim, not a substitute for trying it.
ANC and Ambient Sound are documented modes—not measured outcomes
Samsung lists active noise cancellation and Ambient Sound separately. Its SM-R400N manual says noise-control modes can be turned on only while both earbuds are worn. The ambient option passes outside sound through the microphones; it does not turn this sealed bud into an open-ear design. This two-bud condition also means a missing or uncharged side can change which noise-control choices remain available. The documents establish mode availability, not how much noise this pair removes or how natural a voice sounds.
What the six-hour maximum means—and where it stops
For music with ANC on, Samsung's U.S. announcement says up to six hours from the earbuds and 21 hours total when the case is included. Its footnote describes an internal test pairing preproduction Buds FE to a recent Galaxy phone with default settings, including ANC, and warns that actual playback varies with use, settings, charge cycles and Bluetooth signal. Case-assisted hours require pauses to recharge; they are not a single uninterrupted session. There is no source-backed reason to expect an older used unit to approach its launch maximum.
The codec and battery claims are separate. Samsung lists SBC and its proprietary Scalable format, but gives the six-hour ANC figure without naming a codec. In the same U.S. specification row, the remaining codec text is printed as “AAA.” That could be a typo, but this source set does not make it safe to silently rewrite the entry as AAC. The assessment therefore records SBC and Scalable only; it does not match the AAC choice or claim six hours over SBC. It also does not assign Scalable support to a generic phone: Samsung describes that format as proprietary, so the exact compatible host matters.
There is a separate manufacturer inconsistency for ANC-off listening. The U.S. consumer newsroom lists 8.5 hours per charge and 30 hours with the case; Samsung's U.S. B2B sheet lists nine hours per charge and 30 hours total. Both agree on 30 with the case, but no reviewed source reconciles the different earbud-only figure. Rather than choose or average one, this assessment leaves the off-mode per-charge number unresolved. That conflict does not change the separately stated six-hour ANC-on edge.
At a six-hour ANC minimum, the broad documented one-source plan qualifies; at seven hours it does not. Add an SBC requirement and the result changes again: SBC is listed, but no SBC-plus-ANC runtime is. A battery total, a different codec's maximum, or a model feature list cannot fill that missing same-condition figure. Check the earlier, sealed ANC and six-hour combination, then raise only the runtime floor to seven. For the stricter codec question, check ANC, SBC and six hours together.
Wired USB-C case, not wireless charging
Samsung's U.S. business sheet labels the case's charging “Wired.” The official Canadian-English SM-R400N manual identifies its port as USB Type-C and describes cable charging; it is used here to identify the same model-family connector, not to infer a U.S. carton. Samsung's U.S. box page lists the case, buds, a USB cable, three eartip sizes and two wingtip sizes. It separately warns that wall chargers are sold separately. For a used offer, verify the exact case, that its port and cable work, and which accessories are actually present; a historical family checklist is not a seller-specific package guarantee.
Water rating and device switching need careful labels
Samsung's U.S. launch release and business sheet both say IPX2, but the reviewed tables do not say whether that applies to the earbuds, case or both. It therefore cannot stand in for the finder’s IPX4-earbuds choice or IP57-on-buds-and-case choice. Do not interpret it as waterproofing or as permission for swimming; keep the buds and case dry and dry the port before charging.
The product supports Samsung's Auto Switch between paired Galaxy devices, with the U.S. documentation describing a compatible Samsung account/host setup. Switching is not the same as two independent Bluetooth Multipoint links: the manual describes connecting through another paired device and moving the active connection, not two simultaneous source streams. Samsung's U.S. sheet lists iOS as Bluetooth-only, while the SM-R400N manual requires Android 8.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB of memory for the Galaxy Wearable app. Check the current phone, software and desired settings rather than assuming the full Galaxy feature set follows a basic Bluetooth connection.
Graphite and White are finish variants, not separate functions
The reviewed Graphite U.S. order code is SM-R400NZAAXAR; Samsung's distinct U.S. White route is SM-R400NZWAXAR. The available manufacturer evidence describes the same model functions, with no finish-specific operating difference established. Samsung's old detailed-product routes now redirect to later Buds3 FE pages, so the redirects should not be mistaken for evidence that R400 is a current product or that either finish is in stock. Best Buy's exact-product model pages were used only to cross-check these two image identities; no offer, price or customer material informs this assessment.

Who should keep this model on the list?
The evidence fits someone who wants a sealed tip-and-wing design, ANC, and a documented one-source maximum right at six ANC-on hours, and who accepts a cable-only case. It does not fit a must-have for Qi charging, a simultaneous phone-and-laptop connection, a source-verified AAC route, a seven-hour ANC minimum, or a documented IPX4/IP57 water choice. Personal fit, noise reduction and actual battery life remain individual unknowns.
If considering an older or open-box unit, verify the case and both earbuds match SM-R400N; check that its USB-C case charges; ask the seller to demonstrate current ANC-on playback rather than rely on launch claims; confirm the included tips, wings and cable; and check return terms and battery-related warranty. Samsung's source documents do not establish that any current listing is genuine, complete, available, or in a healthy condition. See the same earlier-inclusive, wired-only case requirement or check the earlier-inclusive SBC choice.
Primary evidence: Samsung's U.S. October 2023 announcement and specification table, its U.S. Galaxy Buds FE product page, U.S. package and charger guide, the official U.S. B2B specification sheet, and the Canadian-English SM-R400N user manual. Exact appearance cross-checks: the Best Buy U.S. model pages for Graphite and White; only their exact model/image identity is used.
