Bose QuietComfort Earbuds (2024), Black review

Black US 2024 QuietComfort Earbuds, distinct from 2020 QuietComfort Earbuds and QuietComfort Ultra products. Bose documents sealed in-ear ANC, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C and wireless case charging, earbuds-only IPX4 and two-device multipoint; the official codec specification is unspecified.

A useful fit for

A source-backed sealed in-ear ANC option with three tip sizes and three matching stability bands, a wireless charging case, USB-C input, Bluetooth 5.3 and two-device multipoint. Bose’s owner guide states up to 8.5 hours, while the current support specification says up to nine; the separate claims are retained. Codec support is left unknown because Bose’s reviewed spec does not identify one.

The main tradeoff

Fit and ANC performance are personal and untested here. The case has no documented water rating even though Bose rates the earbuds IPX4. The included short cable is USB-A-to-USB-C, not USB-C at both ends. Runtime and total case-runtime claims differ between the owner guide and current support table; no precise measured expectation is inferred. Do not assume the 2020 QuietComfort Earbuds or Ultra model features apply.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Will this 2024 model stay connected to both my phone and computer?

Bose’s model-specific help says the earbuds can be actively connected to two devices at once, while audio plays from only one at a time. If a third device connects, it replaces the older of the two connections. That is multipoint switching, not simultaneous audio mixing.

How long does the battery last with noise cancellation on?

Bose’s 2024 launch and owner guide say up to 8.5 hours. The current support specifications say up to nine hours, so Bose’s own sources disagree. Treat 8.5 as the conservative manufacturer claim and verify the current model-specific support page. Actual battery time varies with volume, settings, calls and battery condition.

Does the Bose specification confirm AAC or another codec?

The official 2024 support specification reviewed here lists Bluetooth profiles but does not name SBC, AAC, LDAC or LC3. This assessment leaves codec support unknown rather than importing the values from another Bose generation.

Can the charging case go in the rain?

Bose lists IPX4 for the earbuds only. Its support information does not assign water resistance to the case. The case can charge by USB-C or a compatible wireless charging pad, but the wireless feature does not add a water rating.

Bose's 2024 QuietComfort Earbuds are a sealed in-ear wireless model with active noise cancellation, a wireless charging case and multipoint for two connected devices. The exact Black US SKU is QCEARB24-HEADPHONEIN-BLK-WW; “QuietComfort Earbuds” also appears on older Bose products, so the 2024 model year and case identity matter. Bose's documentation gives two different maximum-runtime statements: the specification page says up to nine hours, while the product launch and owner guide describe up to 8.5 hours in the relevant full-ANC/Quiet arrangement. I preserve rather than average that discrepancy.

This is desk research, not a fit, cancellation, call, or battery test. The manufacturer’s maximum does not guarantee a listening session of that duration.

What the fit kit does and does not tell you

The product uses silicone eartips and stability bands. The package listing includes small, medium and large tips with matching stability bands, a charging case, a 12-inch USB-A-to-USB-C cable and safety sheet. The sealed design gives a physical barrier that an open-ear bud does not, but the source material cannot say whether any supplied size will form a comfortable seal for your ears. This is a meaningful purchase check, especially if your past in-ear fit has been difficult. It is not enough to see “QuietComfort” or “fit kit” and assume the product will stay secure or cancel sound equally well for every person.

Bose lists Quiet, Aware and Off modes and describes noise cancellation. The case and buds should still be treated separately for water: the owner guide labels IPX4 for the earbuds, while the case is not rated as water resistant. The official support table confirms wireless charging and USB-C charging. A compatible Qi pad is not listed as part of the included box contents, so check whether you already have one or plan to use the supplied cable.

Runtime is a range of source claims, not a promise

The current Bose support specification says “up to 9 hours” for the earbuds and up to 31.5 hours with a fully charged case. The 2024 launch announcement and owner's guide say up to 8.5 hours, with Bose's test note tied to active noise cancellation and a specified pink-noise protocol. These are not interchangeable real-world observations. If eight hours is a hard requirement, the two statements straddle that threshold, so the safer choice is to treat the 8.5-hour full-ANC claim as the relevant manufacturer description and verify current support information before buying. The case's advertised multiple top-ups are also maxima; actual performance varies with volume, settings, calls, temperature and battery age.

A 20-minute quick charge is listed as up to three hours, which may help with a short turnaround. The full USB-C cable is 12 inches and USB-A at the power-source end. If your charging routine is USB-C-to-USB-C only, make sure you have a suitable alternative cable or adapter; that included cable should not be casually described as USB-C at both ends.

Connection and app setup

Bose lists Bluetooth 5.3 and compatibility with the Bose QCE app. In Bose's pairing help, this specific 2024 product can be actively connected to two devices at once, while audio plays from one device at a time. That is ordinary multipoint, not simultaneous playback. Bose's official support specification lists streaming profiles but does not state an SBC, AAC, LDAC or LC3 codec for this product; the codec therefore remains unknown in this assessment and cannot satisfy a codec-specific finder requirement. Do not assume that a familiar brand name supplies codec evidence.

The model is relevant if you want a sealed fit, ANC, a USB-C-capable wireless case and an explicit two-device switching arrangement at a more everyday tier than Bose's Ultra line. The tradeoffs are uncertain fit, no case water rating, an included cable with USB-A at one end, and the documented runtime discrepancy. Someone who needs a codec specified by the manufacturer, a water-rated case, or a stable eight-hour ANC guarantee should not infer those from the product name or headline claim.

Confirm the exact 2024 package

Before purchasing, look for the 2024 case model 442318 and the 318L/318R earbud identifiers in model documentation, and match Black to the exact SKU. Ask whether all three tip sizes and stability bands, the case, USB-A-to-USB-C cable and safety paperwork are included. The official 2024 product is not the QuietComfort Earbuds II, the 2020-era QuietComfort Earbuds, or the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen); model pages and images can look similar. Check firmware/app compatibility and the seller's return conditions for fit. If you need wireless charging, confirm that the complete case is included rather than a loose earbud listing.

Finish references: QuietComfort Earbuds

Bose's current U.S. in-ear page showed six non-Black finishes for the 2024 QuietComfort Earbuds family, including the newly surfaced Rosewood Mauve color. This gallery also preserves the earlier observed Twilight Blue finish, which was not among the 15 cards visible on that current page. These images identify appearance only: no separate finish SKU or functional difference is inferred, and every picture shows earbuds rather than a complete package. The Twilight Blue campaign image is deliberately stylized, so its lighting is not a reliable color swatch.
