A useful fit for

An open, hard-shell fit without a silicone canal tip is documented. Apple’s sources cannot establish a personal fit, seal or retention result; do not shortlist this for a required sealed fit or ANC.

The main tradeoff

The standard A1602 case is Lightning-only and not Qi-capable. AirPods 2 publish up to five hours per charge, but Apple’s total-with-case claim is “more than 24 hours,” and actual capacity of any earlier unit depends on battery condition. No codec, generic multipoint, water rating or case-water protection is established.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the standard AirPods 2 case charge wirelessly?

No. Apple identifies this package with Charging Case A1602, which has a Lightning port. The separately identified A1938 Wireless Charging Case is Qi-compatible; it is not the A1602 case.

What is different about the AirPods 2 wearing style?

The AirPods 2 shell has no silicone ear tip and is an open fit, not a sealed in-ear arrangement. Fit and retention vary by person, and Apple does not document active noise cancellation for this model.

How long does Apple say AirPods 2 can play on a charge?

Apple lists up to five hours of listening on one charge and more than 24 hours with the case. A 15-minute case charge is listed as providing up to three hours. These are original maximum claims, not a prediction for an older battery.

Is AirPods 2 water resistant or guaranteed to work fully with Android?

Apple’s current water-resistance page does not give AirPods 2 an IP rating. Apple says AirPods can be paired as Bluetooth headphones with non-Apple devices, but available features may be limited. The reviewed material does not establish an audio codec or generic multipoint.

Apple’s second-generation AirPods are an open-fit Bluetooth earbud package introduced in 2019. This assessment is for the standard Charging Case edition, not the separately offered Wireless Charging Case. It is based on Apple’s product identification, technical sheet and instructions; I did not wear, test or measure the earbuds.

An open fit with no active cancellation

AirPods 2 use the familiar hard-shell shape without a silicone ear tip that seals the ear canal. That is a useful distinction for shoppers who dislike an inserted or plugged sensation, but it is not a promise of comfort or retention: ear shapes vary, and an unsealed fit also lets more environmental sound through. If your priorities include passive isolation, a secure fit during vigorous movement or blocking out nearby voices, this design should not be treated as a substitute for a sealed model.

Apple’s documentation does not identify an Active Noise Cancellation mode for AirPods 2. They therefore suit an “open listening without ANC” shortlist rather than a commute or office brief that depends on electronic cancellation. Their open shape may help you remain aware of your surroundings, but awareness is not a certified safety function, and the product does not provide a Transparency mode like some later AirPods. Apple’s comparison page and the AirPods 2 technical specifications are the basis for this category distinction.

What the standard case changes

This US package pairs AirPods model numbers A2032 and A2031 with the Lightning Charging Case A1602. Apple’s identification guide says A1602 works with AirPods 1 and AirPods 2 and charges through its Lightning port. This package does not document Qi charging. That matters if you already rely on a wireless pad: do not assume a case that looks like an AirPods case is the wireless version, and do not infer charging support from the earbuds themselves. Apple identifies a separate A1938 Wireless Charging Case for the AirPods 1/2 family; that is a different purchase/package decision, covered separately in our library.

Apple lists a Lightning-to-USB-A cable with the standard case package, along with the earbuds, case and documentation. Check the exact cable type and the offer’s condition before purchasing a legacy package; no current retail stock or seller condition is implied here. The case can be charged by its Lightning connector. If your everyday charging setup is USB-C-only, you may need a compatible cable or adapter that Apple does not list in this package.

Battery claims in context

Apple lists up to five hours of listening from one charge and more than 24 hours total with the case. A 15-minute case charge is listed as providing up to three hours of listening. Apple’s battery footnote says its 2019 measurements used preproduction AirPods and charging cases, software, and iPhone XS Max units, at 50-percent volume; results vary with settings, environment and use. Treat these as controlled manufacturer maximums, not as a guarantee for a used battery or a promise about calls, loud playback or every device.

The support sheet names Apple’s H1 headphone chip, Bluetooth 5.0, double-tap controls and hands-free “Hey Siri.” Apple’s launch announcement described faster switching between its own devices, but that ecosystem behavior is not the same fact as generic two-device Bluetooth multipoint. The reviewed sources do not state a music codec or simultaneous source-device count, so this assessment leaves both unknown. Pairing to a non-Apple Bluetooth device is possible, but Apple notes that feature availability may be limited; confirm the host and software features you need rather than assuming all Apple-specific functions transfer.

What the rating does—and does not—say

Apple’s current water-resistance support page does not list AirPods 2 in its rated models. This is not evidence that the earbuds are waterproof, nor is it a basis for claiming an IP rating. Keep the earbuds and charging case dry around rain, sweat, sinks and workouts, and do not charge wet equipment. If a documented water rating is essential to your purchase, this package does not satisfy that requirement from the sources reviewed.

Who should consider this package?

The standard A1602 case is relevant if you prefer an open fit and will charge by Lightning, do not need ANC or wireless-case charging, and have verified the seller’s exact version and condition. It is a poor match for buyers seeking a sealed tip fit, a documented water rating, USB-C-only case charging, Qi charging, an established codec requirement or guaranteed multipoint. These boundaries are more useful than treating every AirPods 2 listing as the same bundle.

  • Match the earbud numbers A2032/A2031 and standard case A1602; A1938 is the wireless case.
  • Verify whether the offer includes the original Lightning-to-USB-A cable, and whether your charger has the necessary port or adapter.
  • Try an open-fit earbud during an eligible return period; no fit trial or comfort test is claimed here.
  • Confirm the features your actual phone or computer supports; codec and generic multipoint status remain unspecified.
  • Do not treat an unrated older model as water-resistant or expose its case to moisture.

Bottom line: AirPods 2 with the standard A1602 case are a straightforward open-fit, non-ANC Bluetooth package with Apple-published five-hour single-charge listening and Lightning-only case charging. Its age makes exact case identity, battery condition, included cable, return terms and host compatibility especially important checks.
