Setup

Set up the host, codec and app as one listening system

A wireless earbud setup has at least three parts: the headset, the source device and the software settings that select a connection. Pairing successfully does not prove that the source is using the codec or mode you expected. For a particular model, the safest sequence is the one in its current manual.

Pair the exact headset identity

Sony's WF-1000XM6 guide says the earbuds power on when removed from the charging case and recommends following the Sound Connect app instructions. When a Bluetooth menu shows both WF-1000XM6 and an LE-prefixed name, Sony says to select the name without the LE prefix for that pairing step. A different model may use different pairing names, so do not transfer that detail automatically.

Choose one connection mode at a time

For Classic Audio LDAC playback, Sony says the host must support LDAC and Sound Connect must be set to Priority on Sound Quality. For LE Audio, the host must support that route and Sony says to select Low latency. If sound breaks up, the manual discusses switching to a more stable connection setting. The current app interface and device compatibility should be checked because software can change.

Add multipoint only if you need it

To connect two devices, Sony's guide describes pairing each one, connecting the first, then establishing the second Bluetooth connection. A two-device setting can switch playback; a third connection displaces one of the two already connected. This is not a promise that all codec modes remain available during multipoint. If a codec matters, verify it again after switching the second device on.

Check the result from the source side

Use the phone or computer's audio settings to confirm the intended headset and profile. Sony's app can display which codec is in use. Test playback, calls and the handoff between the actual devices you plan to carry. A successful test on one phone does not establish compatibility with every laptop, television or app.

For LinkBuds, verify the selected mode

The Fit's LDAC route needs a compatible host and Sound Connect set to Priority on Sound Quality. Its LC3 route needs LE Audio support, while the guide excludes multipoint in that mode. The Open also separates Classic Audio and LE Audio and disables multipoint with LE Audio. For LinkBuds Clip, the guide offers SBC and AAC over its Bluetooth audio connection and an app to check the active codec. Use the exact model manual: the source device and app, not the brand name, determine what connection is actually in use.
